Artist Statement
As an aspiring journalist, I hope to create content that makes people more aware of the social and political injustices that are occurring in the world around them. I want to effectively influence people to stand up to these injustices after viewing my work. Using the skills I have learned throughout my study of media in the age of technology and digitization, I aspire to be a source of innovation and creativity for my generation. Hurricane Sandy damaged my neighborhood Howard Beach, and all of the destruction made me want extremely devastated me and my family. People posting on social media didn’t understand the severity of the actual destruction because they were writing from an outsiders perspective. I wrote a blog and went to social media to provide an insider experience to the aftermath of the hurricane in a flood zone.
